Wish I knew the answer to that. I'm in the midst of a very long arc that I fear may be going on for too long. But there's no hard and fast rule. "As long as you're able to keep it interesting," I guess. But it's hard to be objective about that.
I only saw one thing he did, it was this comic about touring Europe with a rock band as their "staff cartoonist". It was great. I figured he must have done other stuff, but I never saw any of it.

I worry that allowing myself too much freedom will encourage me to explore too much, and make the creation of the strip take longer. Takes long enough as it is. So I use a set format; in my case, limiting my options is a good thing.

I have to say, you are incredible!
Once I started reading your strip, I couldn't put it down. I binge-read about halfway through your archive before I finally had to give-in and go to sleep. I'm now almost caught up, and am actually somewhat sad that I might not be able to continue to take this in at my current pace (cause I'll have read it all).
But anyway, I have to admit, I feel like the fact that I enjoyed your comic so much somehow is a strike against my manhood--but that aside, thank you for the entertainment!!!
I think it is brilliant how you introduce us to Miriam and John. It certainly appeals to the manhood side that has been in question ever since. And once I became intrigued with them I couldn't stop reading! Excellent job!
