I'm a N.E.W.W. man!

Hey, I'm at New England Webcomics Weekend! Got a ride with Tom and Dan from Ann Arbor ... snuck through Ontario, snoozed across upstate New York, we are here! Went on the pub crawl last night ... met Sam Logan and Jeph Jacques, who were not locked in mortal combat (I was highly disappointed, to say the least). Also met Randy Milholland (very friendly, enjoyed talking with him) and Rene Engstrom (very sweet). Today the actual event begins; should be a good time! Continue

Anyone going to New England Webcomics Weekend?

Is there anyone in or near Michigan who is thinking about going to the New England Webcomics Weekend? I would love to attend, but for a few little problems. I have to work Friday, so I'd only be able to attend Saturday and part of Sunday. The airfare is out of my price range, but the alternative is a 10-hour drive each way. Would anyone be interested in sharing a ride? I work in the Detroit area, so I'd prefer to travel with someone in southeast M… Continue

Infinite Canvas

For the latest "Everyday Heroes" episode, I figured that the situation needed an extended layout ... what some web artists refer to as "infinite canvas". It seemed appropriate, since it's a long way down to ... well, check out the page and let me know what you think. As you might guess, this is a major turning point in the EH story. Comments, good or bad, are always welcome. Continue

Everyday Heroes Episode #100

Yes, Mr. Mighty & Co. have been in action for 100 episodes! (And that's not counting fillers or the bios that were later moved to the cast page.) If you haven't read EH, now is the perfect time to get caught up, because a major turning point is coming in the next few episodes. Comments and feedback are always appreciated as well. Continue

Lovecraft Is Missing

So I was reading Randy Milholland's "Something Positive", and his blog included a link to a fairly new webcomic called "Lovecraft Is Missing". As you might suspect from the title, H.P. Lovecraft is one of the characters; there are plenty of others, and a lot of plot threads ... it will be interesting to see how they all weave together. Excellent color artwork throughout, interesting characters, and good… Continue

"Marry Me!" (That's a comic, not a request)

After a long hiatus, the webcomic "Marry Me" is back with new short stories. Right now it's updating once a week, on Fridays. So go read it and tell Messrs. Crosby and Mokhtar that you like them much. And if you haven't read the original story in its entirety, then ... well ... that's just ... WRONG. Go read it from the start. Read it all the way through; this stuff will be on the final. Continue

Feedback needed for my experiment

If you check out my "photos" section, you'll see a teaser panel for the next episode of "Everyday Heroes". This is the first panel I've ever done entirely on the graphics tablet. No pens, pencils, ink or paper were used to create this; just Wacom and Photoshop. Any constructive criticism is greatly appreciated. Continue

Anders Loves Maria, we all love Rene Engstrom

OK, I hope most of you already know about Anders Loves Maria, a well-written and beautifully drawn comic by Rene Engstrom (originally Canadian, now living in Sweden). Recently, she's had trouble updating due to hardware problems ... no Wacom tablet, no scanner. Right now she has to draw and color by hand, then take a picture of the finished page with her iSight camera. Not the best method, but at least it keeps the story going (for which al… Continue

Questionable Content ... one of the best!

It's definitely not for children. There's no actual nudity, but there is a lot of mature conversation and four-legged words. Having said that, Questionable Content by Jeph Jacques is one of the few comics that can make me actually laugh out loud on a consistent basis. The elements are pretty basic: Martin is the regular guy with the low-paying job, Faye is the girl who likes Martin but has some emotional issues, Dora is Faye's friend and boss (a… Continue

WCI High

I s'pose I shoulda mentioned this yesterday ... this is my week over at WCI High. The Wednesday and Friday episodes will have cameos from other strips. It's fun getting to play around with other characters ... now if only I had time to play around with my own. Anybody wanna adopt me so I don't have to work? Continue

Go read "Bobwhite" (and "The Good Crook" too)

Yay, I discovered another new comic! It's called "Bobwhite" by Magnolia Porter. The main characters are three young women (well, two young and one a bit older) at college. The writing is funny and realistic, and the interactions between the characters are very true-to-life. It's a fairly new comic, so you can go through the archives in one short sitting. Magnolia Porter also writes "Continue

Minor delays and stuff

I normally try to get new episodes of Everyday Heroes posted on Thursday nights, so they can be up on Friday morning. This week, I had to make an emergency trip to the hospital, so I spent a couple of days flat on my back, and (worst of all) away from all my drawing stuff. The doctor finally sent me home and told me to take the rest of the week off from work. So, I've been trying to get caught up for the past couple o… Continue

Another guest strip at "Palindramas"

Yet more shameless self-promotion; I've got another guest strip up at Dan Mazur's "Palindramas". Written by my son, drawn by me. Hey, the family that palindromes together, rehtegot semordnilap! Continue

XKCD strip #469

I know XKCD has been mentioned before, but everyone needs to read today's strip. All the things you *wish* Harrison Ford had said ... Continue

We The Robots

You've all read "Dilbert", right? You know how Dilbert and his co-workers sometimes feel as if they're robots, condemned to endless pointless menial tasks? Well, now imagine Dilbert *as* a robot, and you'll have something like, "We The Robots", by Chris Harding. Bob is a robot who works at a dull office job. He's got robot co-workers, robot friends, robot family, and just tries to get through the frustrations of everyday robot life. He's like to stand o… Continue

Jump Leads

This is an excellent comic ... a sci-fi comedy adventure with typically sharp dry British humor (or is that humour?) Anyway, if you enjoyed Red Dwarf or Dr. Who, you'll like "Jump Leads". It's well-written, well-drawn, and well, you can check it out for yourself. "Jump Leads" is created by Ben Paddon and Jjar. Give it a look. Continue

Shameless self-promotion

For those of you who enjoy words and wordplay, check out Palindramas by Dan Mazur. It updates weekly on Wednesdays. "Palindrome: a phrase or word which reads the same backward or forward." The premise is simple: compose a palindrome, then draw a cartoon to illustrate it. Dan always finds just the right image to bring out the humor in these convoluted phrases. Some are simple one-panel gags, others are multi-panel jokes… Continue

Breakfast of the Gods by Brendan Douglas Jones

This is one of the more popular comics on WCN, and one of my favorites. Breakfast of the Gods takes place in a world inhabited by all the cereal mascots, where the forces of good and evil are locked in an epic struggle for control of the land. The story is told as a trilogy: Book 1, "The Last Good Morning", and Book 2, "O Cap'n, My Cap'n" are complete, with Book 3 "Apocalypse Yum" currently in progress. Three things stand ou… Continue

Daisy Is Dead

Daisy is Dead by Lindsay Smith Imagine you're a young girl that loves flowers ... then you get struck by lightning and wake up as a zombie. And that's just the start of your troubles. Daisy has to deal with little things like getting a new wardrobe to match her new undead lifestyle, plus trying to support herself (she can't collect her inheritance 'cause she's legally dead), plus trying to find some friends that don't mind a slightly decompos… Continue
